Description from the seller
Mark Twain, A Tramp Abroad.
London: Chatto & Windus, Piccadilly, 1880.
First British edition of Mark Twain’s celebrated travel narrative, recounting his journey through Europe with his characteristic humour, satire, and keen observation. A Tramp Abroad is one of Twain’s most popular travel books and a cornerstone of nineteenth-century American literature.
This edition is illustrated with numerous engraved illustrations, including a striking full-page frontispiece. The original publisher’s decorative red cloth binding is present, stamped in black and gilt, with appealing pictorial design.
Condition: Good overall. Binding shows minor wear and rubbing, particularly at the extremities and spine; some fading and surface marks. Internally generally very clean with minimum age-toning; solid boards, clean content and crisp pages. Complete and sound.
An attractive example of a first British edition of a classic Mark Twain work, desirable for both its literary importance and its illustrated Victorian binding.
