David Johnston (1933-2016), an American artist, had an exhibition scheduled for July 2017. It was a posthumous showcase of David Johnston's work, a long-standing member of SMI, which included his abstract mixed media on Japanese paper, original serigraphs, and artworks. A prolific and highly regarded artist, Johnston had over forty solo exhibitions during his lifetime in France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, England, and the United States. Reviewing his solo show at the Montclair Art Museum, the New York Times wrote: 'Poetic and distinctive... he handles watercolor as if it were an effluence of his own blood.'
