From the archives of a cinematic genius
When Stanley Kubrick was asked in 1968 to comment on the metaphysical significance of '2001: A Space Odyssey,' he replied: 'This is not a message I ever wanted to put into words. 2001 is a nonverbal experience... I tried to create a visual experience that directly penetrates the subconscious with emotional and philosophical content.'
"The Stanley Kubrick Archives" is part of the series "Bibliotheca Universalis" and draws on the director's philosophy. From the opening sequence of "Killer’s Kiss" to the final images of "Eyes Wide Shut," Kubrick's masterful visual effects can be impressively showcased through a series of captivating, fascinating still images. It reveals Kubrick's creative process through fascinating archival materials, including set designs, sketches, correspondence, documents, screenplays, drafts, notes, and shooting plans.
Accompanying the visual and archival material are essays by renowned Kubrick researchers, articles written by and about Kubrick, and a selection of Kubrick's best interviews. The result is a visual, archival, and scholarly journey through masterpieces of 20th-century cinema and the spirit of the director.
