Description from the seller

Very fine copy of this anatomical atlas drawn up by Doctor Gustave-Joseph Witkowski (1844-1923) containing 3 color lithographs engraved by Leveillé.

Superb system book, in excellent condition, composed of three tabbed plates presenting five articulated figures. With the legend of the plates opposite.
1st plate - Left eyeball, larynx seen in profile, brain enclosed in the skull. 2nd plate - Head seen in profile. 3rd plate - Thorax and abdomen.

Set in a sturdy English green half-shagreen binding with corners, rounded spine decorated with fillets and the title in gilt letters. Gilt head.
Missing the title page. Rubbing of use to the headcaps, corners and joints. Interior in very good condition overall. Figures intact and functional. Paper a little yellowed, some scattered foxing.

Gustave-Joseph-Alphonse Witkowski, born March 21, 1844 in Nevers and died January 24, 1923 in Paris, was a French physician, historian, anthropologist, and popularizer. He was the author of numerous well-documented popular works on anatomy, medicine, the history of medicine, etc.; books written alone or in collaboration with other physicians. He is the inventor of a self-bandaging device that bears his name; this "device allows women to carry, themselves, in the genital tract, the topicals prescribed by the doctor."

Gustave-Joseph Witkowski
The Human Body by G. Witkowski, doctor of medicine from the Faculty of Paris. Atlas containing 3 plates which can be used as a supplement to all works dealing with human anatomy and physiology.
