Four Chinese snuff bottles in overlay glass, hardstone and porcelain – China, 20th century
Description
Group of four Chinese snuff bottles from the 20th century, in different materials and techniques, coming from a private collection inherited from a diplomat.
1-Red overlay glass snuff bottle, of pear shape, with bright red glass carved in relief on a translucent ground, decorated with stylised floral motifs on both sides. Stopper in matching colour; no internal spoon.
2-Blue overlay glass snuff bottle, flattened circular shape, with dark blue glass in high relief over a bubble‑infused clear ground, carved with scrolls and animals on each side. Stopper present, without spoon.
3-Hardstone snuff bottle (probably agate), flattened form, carved on both sides with birds among flowering branches; original stone stopper without cork insert and without spoon.
4-Porcelain snuff bottle moulded in high relief with numerous figures all around, brightly enamelled in polychrome glazes; light green stone stopper, no spoon.
Typical decorative production of the mid 20th century, inspired by Qing dynasty models and offered here as a coherent small group from an old private collection.

1 - Red overlay glass bottle: height approx. 10 cm, width approx. 5 cm.
2 blue-overlay glass bottles: height approx. 7.5 cm, width approx. 5.5 cm.
3-Hardstone / agate bottle: height approx. 6 cm, width approx. 5 cm.
4-Porcelain bottle with many figures: height approx. 7.5 cm, width approx. 4 cm.
Condition
Overall good vintage condition, with minor signs of age and use (small surface scratches, tiny firing or carving imperfections). No visible cracks or restorations. Stoppers present on all four bottles; three stoppers still have their cork inserts, while the hardstone bottle has a stone stopper without cork insert. None of the bottles retains the original spoon. Please study the photos carefully for a complete impression of the condition.

From a private collection in Italy, inherited from a former diplomat.
