Deze Bowmore 16 Years Old – Ruby Port Cask Finish verenigt de elegante, maritieme rook van Islay met de fluweelzachte zoetheid van Ruby Port. Na een lange rijping krijgt de whisky een verfijnde finish op portvaten, wat resulteert in extra diepte, rood fruit en een warme, wijnachtige rondheid. Proefnotities – distilleerderijprofiel (indicatief)
Neus: Rijpe rode bessen, pruimen en kersen, verweven met zachte turfrook, zeezout en honing.
Smaak: Vol en harmonieus; zoete portinvloeden, donkere chocolade, gestoofd fruit, mout en een elegante rooklaag.
Afdronk: Middellang tot lang, warm en licht droog met aanhoudende fruitigheid, zachte kruiden en subtiele as.
Proefnotities – onafhankelijke degustatie
Neus: Duidelijk wijnachtig, al niet onmiddellijk herkenbaar als port. Veel bramen, herfstbladeren en toetsen van frambozenconfituur. Zachte turfrook op de achtergrond, samen met leder en hints van gelakt vlees. Ook melkchocolade en zwarte thee. Af en toe een lichtere fruittoets, minder uitgesproken dan bij de 19 Years Old.
Smaak: Nog steeds druivig, met nu meer verkoold hout en bruine suiker. Gezouten walnoten, kruidige en bittere tonen (cinchona), licht astringent. Leder keert terug, gevolgd door zwarte peper, tannines en zwarte thee. Enkele bramen, maar geen tropische toetsen.

This Bowmore 16 Years Old – Ruby Port Cask Finish brings together the elegant, maritime peat smoke of Islay with the velvety sweetness of Ruby Port. After long maturation, the whisky receives a refined finish in port casks, adding extra depth, red fruit notes and a warm, wine-like roundness. The result is a modern, approachable Bowmore with a luxurious, slightly gastronomic character, released exclusively for Travel Retail in 2024.
Tasting Notes – Distillery Profile (Indicative)
Nose: Ripe red berries, plums and cherries, interwoven with gentle peat smoke, sea salt and honey.
Palate: Full and harmonious; sweet port influences, dark chocolate, stewed fruit, malt and an elegant layer of smoke.
Finish: Medium to long, warm and lightly dry, with lingering fruitiness, soft spices and subtle ash.
Tasting Notes – Independent Review
Nose: Clearly wine-driven, though not immediately identifiable as port. Lots of blackberries, autumn leaves and hints of raspberry jam. Mild peat smoke in the background, along with leather and touches of lacquered meat. Notes of milk chocolate and black tea as well. Occasional flashes of brighter fruit, less pronounced than in the 19 Year Old.
Palate: Still grapey, now with more charred wood and brown sugar sweetness. Salted walnuts, herbal and bitter notes (cinchona), slightly astringent. Leather returns, followed by black pepper, tannins and black tea. Some blackberries, but no tropical notes.
Finish: Medium. Only at the very end do mango, ginger and grape notes appear—subtle and rather late.
