Description from the seller

A special and unique Japonisme-style side table with marquetry/inlay work and a lacquer finish.
Finished in black lacquered wood with faded gold-colored accents.
A lacquer finish has been applied to the leaf, featuring an image of birds in nature.

Japonism was an art movement that emerged from the reopening of Japan to world trade in 1854.
The bright colors, asymmetric compositions and everyday subjects influenced movements such as Impressionism and Art Nouveau.
This little table is a textbook example of this Japonisme movement and dates from the period 1875–1920.

Condition: Good, with a few small blemishes in the paintwork, not unusual given the age. See photos.
