Italian chessboard with all original wooden pieces, produced in Italy in the 1990s, crafted in natural wood (likely olive wood) with a raised base, an inlaid playing surface and a shaped frame, dimensions 25 cm wide by 8 cm high, in good condition.
Description from the seller
Italian chessboard with original pieces
early years of the twentieth century
olive wood (attribution)
Fascinating Italian-made chessboard, dating from the early years of the twentieth century, crafted in natural wood, likely olive wood, recognizable by its warm, irregular, and highly pronounced grain patterns, typical of this wood type.
The chessboard features a raised structure on feet, with an inlaid playing surface and a shaped frame, crafted according to an artisanal tradition still linked to 19th-century taste but already oriented towards greater functionality. The compact proportions and manual craftsmanship give the piece a strong character and a sober elegance.
The set includes all original pieces, also made of turned wood, with two different natural finishes. The pieces display a simple and harmonious shape, consistent with the period of production, and are perfectly matched with the chessboard, an element that enhances its collectible appeal.
Object designed not only as a game but also as a piece of furniture, typical of early 20th-century Italian bourgeois homes, where the chessboard was often displayed on coffee tables or writing desks.
Good overall condition, with signs of age, wear, and patina consistent with the object's age. Stable structure. Complete and homogeneous pieces. The signs of time contribute to the charm and authenticity of the whole.
Completely original, unrestored object.
Natural wood, probably olive.
Proper packaging and traceable shipping across Europe.
