Art Nouveau portrait locket with crystal overlay – Sarah Bernhardt – ca. 1900
Decorative Art Nouveau / Jugendstil portrait locket of amber-colored overlay crystal, manufactured around the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century (ca. 1890–1915).
The chalice is adorned with a finely etched or wheel-engraved portrait of the French stage actress Sarah Bernhardt, surrounded by floral ornamentation, pearl-edge decoration and star motifs.
On the rear side, the name “Sarah Bernhardt” has been hand-engraved.
The wall is facet-cut and rests on a clear crystal foot with a star-polished underside.
The combination of overlay color, faceting, and portrait engraving is characteristic of decorative glass from the Art Nouveau period.
