A handmade three-piece tray set in copper, tin and glass with hammered finish, dating from 1850–1900 and made in the Netherlands, in good used condition with a warm patina and measuring 52 cm high, 34 cm wide and 2 cm deep.
Description from the seller
This handmade tray with matching jugs exudes the atmosphere of a coastal or fishing village, where utensils had to be robust, honest, and durable. The heavily crafted tray features an organic, almost boat-shaped outline with a raised edge, designed to prevent spills – practical on board or in a windy environment.
The two small jugs (originally probably for cream and sugar, or oil and vinegar) are executed entirely in the same style: hammered, with gentle curves and a warm, well-worn patina. The set exudes a subtle luxury, not ostentatious but handcrafted and functional.
According to tradition from a fishing village, which fits well with the maritime character and the choice of a corrosion-resistant metal. This type of set was often used for serving coffee or tea, but also for simple meals ashore or on board.
