Description from the seller

Robert Boyle, Works, edited by Samuel de Tournes in Geneva, 1680-1696, 32 parts in 4 volumes, partly second edition for Opera Varia (complete), partly original edition of these Latin editions of the works of the famous Irish physicist and chemist.
During Robert Boyle's lifetime, his writings were in high demand not only in England but across the continent, so it is not surprising that a complete edition was published during his lifetime, namely the Geneva edition Opera Varia... separate Latin translations from Geneva, sometimes linked with the previous ones, continued to be published until 1696.
The place of publication is either Coloniae Allobrogum (for the first 12 parts corresponding to the second edition of 'Opera Varia') or Genavae (Coloniae Allobrogum, probably to facilitate the sale in France of books printed in Geneva, a city hosting many publishers of French Protestant origin).
The volume only partially represents the chronological order of the publications, as the owner chose to group all the plates (18) into Volume I.
Bookplate handwritten on all volumes 'Ex libris Josephi Robin DM UM B ann.D 1700'

Robert Boyle (1627/1691), physicist, chemist, philosopher of Irish origin, one of the founders of the Royal Society in 1660, initiator of experimental science, considered the first chemist.

Four volumes (18.5 cm by 22.5 cm) in full leather binding from the period, showing signs of wear (leather epidermis, edges of volume II partially trimmed), spine with nerves, titles and volume numbers gilded on the spine, some fading but still legible, rare wormholes, red-speckled edges, volumes still very solid.
The choice of presentation is probably due to Dr. Robin, who placed his ex libris in 1700, shortly after the last publication.
Rare and exceptional collection of Robert Boyle's works before the publication in 1744 of 'The works of the honorable Robert Boyle' in 5 volumes.
For attentive readers, note in Volume III (Hydrostatic Medicine, page 69) the measurement of the specific weight... of a particle of unicorn horn!
Provenance: from the library of a printer from Mayenne.
