Artist biography
Andreu Solivelles, also known as Antoni Solivelles i Andreu, was a Catalan painter born in Sant Cugat del Vallès in 1939. He participated in the local art studio and in the nineties opened a studio on Carrer Orient, number 22, where he dedicated himself to painting. His work focused on oils capturing landscapes and scenes of Sant Cugat, as evidenced by the exhibition 'A Walk Through Sant Cugat' from 1991-1992.
{}
Solivelles emerged in the context of 20th-century art in Sant Cugat, influenced by the vibrant local scene of the 1950s and 1960s, including the Escuela Internacional de Pintura Mural Contemporània. He opened his own studio in the 1990s, focusing on oil on canvas and documenting the city in his paintings. In 2010, Sant Cugat paid him a posthumous tribute with the exhibition 'Surto a pintar, fins després' at the Casa de Cultura, highlighting his late talent and his role as a visual chronicler of the municipality.
{}
His paintings, mainly oils, depict 'a walk through Sant Cugat,' portraying urban and rural exteriors with loose brushwork and vivid colors. He left the studio to paint outdoors, capturing the essence of the place before its modern transformation. The 1991 exhibition included works documenting the city, and the 2010 exhibition gathered over 40 pieces from his most prolific period.
{}
After his death around 2007, his children organized exhibitions to complete his life project, such as the 2010 one, praised by the deputy mayor of Culture of Sant Cugat for its documentary value. His work is valued for emerging late but with great local impact, becoming part of the artistic history of the town.
