Monnik Bacchus – expressief handgesneden houten beeld (ca. jaren 1970–1980)

Deze karaktervolle “Monnik Bacchus” is een charmant en humoristisch houten beeld dat op speelse wijze de spanning verbeeldt tussen kloosterlijke soberheid en wereldse genoegens. Met zijn opgeheven wijnbeker en kruik in de hand verwijst hij symbolisch naar Bacchus (Dionysos), de god van wijn en extase – een motief dat in de christelijke en volkskunsttraditie vaak werd gebruikt als morele spiegel en ironische knipoog.

Het beeld is volledig uit massief hout gesneden en getuigt van degelijk vakmanschap uit de tweede helft van de 20e eeuw. De warme, natuurlijke houttinten, de duidelijk zichtbare guts- en snijsporen en de ronde, expressieve vormen geven het beeld een levendige en ambachtelijke uitstraling. De vriendelijke gelaatsuitdrukking en het robuuste postuur maken dit tot een decoratief object met veel karakter.
