Japanese Katsuobushi Shaver (Kezuriki) with Drawer – Wooden Traditional Kitchen Tool, Showa Retro Vintage

This is a traditional Japanese wooden katsuobushi shaver (kezuriki), a kitchen tool used in Japan to shave dried bonito flakes (katsuobushi) for making dashi broth, an essential element of Japanese cuisine.

The shaver has a classic built-in plane blade structure: when the bonito block is moved back and forth across the blade, the shaved flakes fall inside and are collected in the integrated drawer below.
Its functional design and warm wood character reflect the atmosphere of Showa-era everyday life in Japan.

Today, items like this are appreciated not only as practical tools but also as collectible Japanese folk craft (mingei) pieces and as Japanese vintage interior decor / shop display.
A burned-in maker’s stamp (branding mark) can be seen on the side, adding to its authenticity and charm.

How to use (reference)
1. Place a block of katsuobushi (dried bonito) on the top sliding area
2. Move it back and forth to shave flakes with the internal blade
3. The shaved flakes fall inside and are collected in the drawer
4. After use, remove the drawer and clean the inside with a dry cloth

Note: This is a vintage item. If you intend to use it practically, blade inspection / maintenance (such as sharpening) may be required.
