Description from the seller
Exquisite Art Nouveau / Belle Époque bronze dragon sword stand – Warsaw, early 20th century
Description:
A rare and particularly beautiful piece: sculptural knife stand (porte-couteau) in the shape of a powerful, mythical dragon, crafted in solid bronze with a warm, richly patinated gold-tone finish.
This imposing piece comes from Warsaw (Poland) and dates from the early 20th century (circa 1900–1925), a period in which the Polish capital was an important center for refined bronze casting and luxury table accessories in the transitional style from late Art Nouveau to early Art Deco.
The dragon is masterfully modeled:
• An imposing, open-worked “wing/shell” back with filigree-like details that serve perfectly as a rest for one or more knives
• Highly detailed body with scales, a twisting tail, and a dramatic head with horns and an open mouth
• Elegant, flowing lines that give the object an almost living character
Dimensions: approx. 24 cm long × 14.5 cm high – a real eye-catcher on a table or in a display cabinet!
Condition: excellent, with a beautiful natural patina and no restorations or damages visible.
