A travelogue and memoir of Robert Smythe Hichens' journey through Palestine, Syria, and Egypt in the aftermath of World War I. Hichens' vivid and evocative writing brings to life the ancient cities, holy sites, and natural wonders of the region.
The book is beautifully illustrated with tissue-guarded coloured frontispiece, 40 captioned tissue-guarded photographic plate and 17 colour plates after paintings by Jules Guerin. Published by Hodder and Stoughton, London, 1910. Publisher’s original brown boards, with gilt lettering, and ornate gilt and blue decoration to front board and spine. Top page edges gilt.

Condition
External covers with light wear to corners, and edges, and some tears and repairs to head of spine. Internally the book is in good condition. A prize certificate labelled dated 1915 on inside the front cover page. Pages are clean, thick and healthy, with foxing to first and last free endpaper pages. The plates in nice condition (Please see pictures)
