Laphroaig Cairdeas is a special bottling released annually for the Feis Ile Festival. The 2017 release of the single malt whisky was matured in casks from the world-renowned Maker's Mark distillery in the USA. It was refined with a quarter cask finish. The distillery bottled the Scotch at cask strength at a robust 57.2% ABV. It was also non-chill-filtered.
Nosing: The nose of this single malt whisky presents itself with typical Laphroaig iodine aromas. This is followed by sweet peat smoke and salty, maritime notes. Lemons provide a fruity tang.
Tasting: The Laphroaig Cairdeas Quarter Cask is soft and oily on the tongue. Its primary flavor is grapefruit and lemon. Vanilla and caramel provide sweet impressions. This is followed by sweet peat smoke and iodine. Menthol introduces the finish.
Finish: The finish of this cask strength whisky is lingering. It concludes with sweet and bitter notes, leaving behind the smoke typical of Islay.
