Set of four Louis XVI style lyre-back chairs in wood, a reproduction dated to the late 19th or early 20th century, estimated period 1850–1900, dimensions 135 cm high by 45 cm deep and 45 cm wide, in fairly good used condition.
Description from the seller
It is a Louis XVI‑style chair with a lyre back. Although the original design dates from the late 18th century, this particular model appears to be a high‑quality reproduction dating from the late 19th century (Napoleon III period or the Belle Époque) or the early 20th century.
Main features
The Lyre Back: The central element shaped like a musical instrument is one of the most refined motifs of the Louis XVI style. It symbolized the taste for antiquity and the arts.
Ornamentation: You can observe gilt details either leafed or painted in gold, notably rows of beads (the small gold dots) on the frame, typical of Neoclassicism.
The Pedestal/Legs: Although the bottom isn’t visible in the photo, these chairs usually have tapered and fluted feet (straight with vertical grooves), imitating Greek columns.
Upholstery: The floral pattern of the seat is more recent (probably mid‑20th century). The fabric shows marked wear along the left edge, which will require reupholstering to restore its full luster.
