Maurice Utrillo (1883-1955) - At The Sidewalk

Here we have a very rare and unique piece of art by Maurice Utrillo. An extremely great opportunity to purchase a very scarce low limited edition artwork from this artist that is plate signed and stamped signature. This was originally produced in 1918 in black and white form. I believe from my research that this was printed for an anniversary and updated with colour. Very little information exists for this very low edition of 50 on the internet making the supremely special for a serious collector. Title : “At The Sidewalk” Coloured Lithograph from 1932??? On paper Superb and a Very RARE find Size : The sheet (with borders) measures 320mm x 240mm Image size is approximately 205mm x 170mm Very Low Limited Edition : 27 / 50 Biography : Was a French painter renowned for his evocative, often melancholic, Parisian cityscapes, especially of Montmartre, born to artist Suzanne Valadon, who encouraged his painting as an antidote to his severe alcoholism and mental health struggles, leading to his distinctive "White Period" (c. 1909–1914) of textured, pale architectural scenes, achieving fame and becoming a symbol of Montmartre despite a lifelong battle with drink. Born Maurice Valadon in Montmartre, Paris, in 1883 his Mother Suzanne Valadon, a successful artist and former model for famous painters like Renoir, recognised his difficulties and pushed him to paint. His paternity is uncertain, but Spanish writer Miguel Utrillo legally adopted him, giving Maurice his surname. Utrillo suffered from alcoholism and mental illness (possibly schizophrenia) from a young age, leading to time in asylums. He was Self-Taught even though his mother gave initial lessons, Utrillo was largely self-taught. He focused on the mundane architecture and atmosphere of Montmartre and other French towns, bringing urban solitude to life. Later he moved into a "colourist period" with brighter hues, though critics often favour the earlier, more poignant works. Success was gained becoming famous throughout the World, becoming prosperous, and was awarded the French Legion of Honour in 1928. Died in France in 1955, buried in Montmartre. A fine investment for a collector of 20th century French art by a sort after artist. Condition: Brilliant colours in very good to excellent condition for its age Please view all images as these form part of the description. Postage via UPS or DHL. Will be professionally wrapped using quality materials.
