Carlo D’Orta
Biographical note and CV

Carlo D’Orta uses the camera to paint, drawing from the reality of architecture and the reflections on the glass façades of skyscrapers, and from the movement of dance, real images that resemble paintings inspired by Futurist painting, Surrealist, and early 20th-century abstract art.

A photographer for over 40 years, since 2002 he has dedicated himself to the study of contemporary art and has pursued advanced painting courses at the Rome University of Fine Arts (RUFA) and a master's in photography at IED in Milan.

Their vision evolves from an initial documentary approach to shots inspired by abstract imagery or tinged with a metaphysical/surrealist outlook. The chromatic sensibility developed during their training gives their photographs a strong painterly character.

Since 2009 he has exhibited his works in solo exhibitions at museums and private galleries in Italy, Germany, France, Belgium, Singapore and other countries, including Museo Palazzo Collicola in Spoleto, Museo Archivio Centrale Stato in Rome, Officina delle Zattere in Venice and Tempio di Pomona in Salerno.

Has he won or been named a winner or finalist/selected in numerous awards, including the Satura Prize 2024, the Biennale d'Arte Riviera Romana 2023 Award, the AIPAI Award (Industrial Architecture Heritage) 2023, the Arte Borgo Roma Prize 2022, the One Eyeland Prize 2021, the PX3 Paris Photo Prize 2021, the 3rd Genoa Art Biennale 2019, the Sony World Photography Award, the Celeste Prize, the Rospigliosi Prize, the Satura International Contest, the Arte e Architettura Colleferro Prize, the Arteam Cup, the Malamegi Vision Art Contest, the Abate Zanetti Glass School of Murano Award (as photo-designer), the Enegan Art Award, and others.

Her works are included in prestigious public and private collections, and they can be seen on her social pages (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn).

INTERVIEWS and ARTICLES about the artist's art were published by the major Italian newspapers Il Corriere della Sera and La Repubblica (2018), and by numerous art magazines, including Artribune, Espoarte, Exibart, and others.
