Chinese pale celadon and russet nephrite jade Bi Disk Chilongs -China- 20th Century On offer is an excellent and interesting carved Chinese antique pale celadon and russet nephrite jade Bi Disk. This thick Bi Disk is carved from splendid celadon jade with some russet tones and carved on top in very high relief with 2 sculpturally crafted chilong, chasing each other. 2 Smooth-bodied chi-dragons with flat heads and split tails that end in volutes. The bottom with cloud shape scrolling design. This thick amulet has a light green-white color with brown (russet) highlights. It is a natural colored copy after a Song Dynasty original in authentic, Archaic style! Fine Craftsmanship, with a soft polish and patina. An older jade, rare, and the best one we can offer! Very hard to find! Has been identified as nephrite jade by measuring thermal conductivity and hardness and translucency. Also checked with UV light; which indicates a natural color. Provenance: This jade comes from inland China. a Valuable and rare jade, very suitable as an addition to your high-end collection or to present as a gift! Please see test results and pictures. They acted as a sky symbol, accompanying the dead into the after world or "sky." Bi disks were used as a form of communication with the heavens. You hold the disk close to your mouth and through the opening you whisper your message. The message then travels faster and the prayers are answered. During one’s life, they were kept or worn as personal accessories (amulet), as a symbol of rank and status.
