Description from the seller

Very beautiful sculpture in cream color. No damage, only some patina typical of the age of the sculpture.

The timeline of this sculpture and the artist Guelfi fits perfectly into the history of the 'Italo-Belgian plaster art'. This was a period in which religious art shifted from unique handmade objects to high-quality mass production for the general public.

1890 – 1910: The migration wave
The origin: Many artisans from Lucca (Tuscany) move to Belgium. Among them are families such as Carli and Guelfi.
They are opening studios in Brussels (Schaarbeek) and the Liège region. They bring the technique of casting plaster molds, which had been perfected in Italy for centuries.

2. 1920–1940: The flourishing period (When this image was designed) This is the most likely period in which this image originated. The clean lines of the Madonna's veil and the geometric calm in the design are characteristic of the Art Deco style from the 1920s and 1930s.

Shipped very well packaged and insured.
