Description from the seller

A large bronze wall crucifix, depicting the crucified Christ, mounted on a sober, architecturally designed metal cross, dating from the mid-20th century, in the spirit of the renewal of modern sacred art.

The sculpture of Christ features an expressive, restrained quality: a very elongated body, taut lines, hollowed volumes, and drapery reduced to the essentials. The expression is inward-looking, almost contemplative, conveying a modern and spiritual vision of the Passion, distant from traditional decorative representations.

The cross, deliberately stripped and geometric, highlights the sculptural strength of the bronze and emphasizes the verticality of the figure. The whole exudes a sober and powerful presence, characteristic of studio productions from the interwar period or the immediate post-war period, intended as much for private interiors as for chapels or institutions.

State:
Very good state of preservation.
A uniform antique patina, untreated, preserving the relief and depth of the bronze.
No breakage, no restoration, solid fixation.
Original suspension ring.

Features :
Subject: Christ on the Cross
Material: bronze (Christ) / metal for the cross
Period: around 1930–1950
Style: modern sacred art, expressionist influence
Usage : crucifix mural
Dimensions : 21 × 16 cm
Weight: 210 g

Origin: Europe (France or Belgium, religious workshop)
A bold and timeless piece, appreciated for its modernist aesthetic, its architectural sobriety and its spiritual resonance, ideal for a contemporary interior, a collection of sacred art, or a place of contemplation.
