The First Sign
Description
It begins with a point – an impulse that unfolds. The first sign is like the moment when silence gives way to a trace, emptiness to a direction. Black drops emerge and find their way across the surface, as if they themselves are still hesitating whether to stay or move on.
This work tells of the origin of all communication, of the urge to share oneself — even before language existed. It is the moment of birth for a thought, a gesture, a beginning. Every splash, every line appears spontaneous yet full of meaning, as if the color itself had decided to leave a mark.
Within this image lies the courage to take the first step, even without knowing where it will lead. It is the moment when something invisible takes shape – the first sign that says: I am here.

Christoph Prein is an Austrian artist known for his abstract and contemporary works, created primarily with acrylic paints. Originally from St. Margarethen near Knittelfeld, Prein's pieces are often characterized by their minimalist, abstract style and are carefully crafted from high-quality materials to ensure vibrant colors and longevity. His art frequently explores themes such as identity, memory, and the exploration of human emotions, often pushing the boundaries between the visible and the invisible.
Prein's approach to art is multidimensional, combining painting with elements of sculpture and installation. This unique style has earned him recognition both in Austria and internationally, with exhibitions throughout Europe, North America, and Asia. His works often invite the viewer to reflect on the complexity of the modern world and the deeper aspects of the human experience.

When a person ventures into their innermost depths, into a sphere that rarely comes to light, into a space that is mysterious and hidden, waiting to be discovered, gently awakened, yet painfully exposed, then art is born.
