Description from the seller

Pile: 100% wool
Shuttle & Warp: 100% cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knot density: about 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan

The Baluch carpets (also Belutsch) come from a nomadic people in the Beluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from agriculture, carpet production, as well as sheep, goat and camel farming. Traditionally the carpets are made from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes’ own flocks. Due to their tribal origin, the carpets are usually smaller because of the high transport requirements, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow or orange tones. Baluch carpets are relatively thin, yet quite densely woven, which makes them soft and flexible. Perfect for daily use and active households. Even today these carpets still offer an excellent price–performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
