Description from the seller
Pile: % Wool
Weft & Warp: 100% cotton
Quality: Handmade knot
Knot count: approx. 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belouch) originate from a nomadic people from the Beluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They earn their living from agriculture, carpet production, and sheep, goat, and camel herding. Traditionally, the carpets are made from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes’ own flocks. Due to their tribal origin, the carpets are typically smaller because of the high transport needs, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown, or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange shades. Baluch carpets are comparatively thin, yet rather densely woven, which makes them soft and flexible. Perfect for daily use and with a lot of activity. Even today, these carpets offer excellent price-performance and outstanding durability.
