Baluch Afghan rug of Pakistan origin, model Baluch Afghan, measuring 141 cm by 88 cm with wool pile on cotton, hand-knotted and professionally cleaned.
Description from the seller
Pile: Wool
Weft & Warp: 100% cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knot count: approx. 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belouch) come from a nomadic people in the Baluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from agriculture, carpet production, and sheep, goat, and camel husbandry. Traditionally the carpets are made from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes’ own herds. Due to their tribal origin, the carpets are usually smaller because of the high transport requirements, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown, or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch carpets are relatively thin, yet rather densely woven, which makes them soft and flexible. Perfect for daily use and lots of movement. Even today these carpets still offer an excellent price–performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
