Baluch Afghan, origin Pakistan, model Baluch Afghan, size 142 × 80 cm, wool on cotton, hand-knotted, 21st century, professionally cleaned.
Description from the seller
Pile: % Wool
Warp & Weft: 100% cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knot density: approx. 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belutsch) originate from a nomadic people in the Beluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from agriculture, carpet production, and sheep, goat, and camel husbandry. Traditionally, the carpets are made of sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes’ own flocks. Because of their tribal origin, the carpets are usually smaller due to the high transport needs, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch carpets are relatively thin, but rather densely woven, which makes them soft and flexible. Ideal for everyday use and a lot of movement. Even today these carpets still offer an excellent price-performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
