Description from the seller
Pile: % Wool
Weft & Warp: 100 % cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knot count: approx. 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belutsch) originate from a nomadic people in the Baluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from agriculture, carpet production, and the herding of sheep, goats and camels. Traditionally the carpets are made of sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes’ own herds. Due to their tribal origin the carpets are usually smaller because of the high transport needs, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow or orange tones. Baluch carpets are relatively thin, but rather densely woven, which makes them soft and flexible. Perfect for daily use and a lot of movement. Even today these carpets still offer excellent value for money as well as outstanding durability.
