Description from the seller
Pile: % Wool
Weft & Warp: 100 % cotton
Quality: hand-knotted
Knot count: approx. 160,000 per m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belutsch) originate from a nomadic people from the Baluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from agriculture, carpet production, and the husbandry of sheep, goats, and camels. Traditionally the carpets are made from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes' own herds. Due to their tribal origin, the carpets are typically smaller because of the high transport requirements, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown, or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with vivid patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch carpets are comparatively thin, but rather densely woven, which makes them soft and flexible. Perfect for everyday use and with a lot of movement. Even today these carpets still offer excellent value for money as well as outstanding durability.
