Description from the seller
Pile: Wool content
Weft & Warp: 100% cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knot count: approx. 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belouch) originate from a nomadic people of the Baluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from agriculture, carpet production as well as sheep, goat and camel husbandry. Traditionally the carpets are made from sheep wool or goats’ hair from the tribes’ own herds. Because of their tribal origin, the carpets are usually relatively small due to the high transport requirements, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow or orange tones. Baluch carpets are relatively thin, but rather densely woven, making them soft and flexible. Perfect for daily use and with a lot of movement. Even today these carpets offer an excellent price–performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
