Model Baluch Afghan, country of origin Pakistan, hand-knotted rug in wool on cotton, 144 × 86 cm, pile height 8 mm, knot density ca. 160,000 per m², professionally cleaned, from the 21st century.
Description from the seller
Pile: % wool
Weft & Warp: 100% cotton
Quality: hand-knotted
Knot density: approx. 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belutsch) originate from a nomadic ethnic group from the Belutschistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from agriculture, rug production as well as sheep, goat, and camel husbandry. Traditionally, the carpets are made from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes' own herds. Due to their tribal origin, the carpets are usually smaller because of the high transport needs, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown, or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch rugs are comparatively thin, yet quite densely woven, which makes them soft and flexible. Perfect for daily use and a lot of movement. Even today these rugs offer an excellent price–performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
