Description from the seller
Pile: % Wool
Weft & Warp: 100% cotton
Quality: hand-knotted
Knot count: approx. 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch (or Belouch) carpets come from a nomadic people in the Baluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from farming, carpet production, and sheep, goat, and camel herding. Traditionally, the carpets are made from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes’ own flocks. Due to their tribal origin, the carpets are typically smaller because of the high transport needs, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown, or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch carpets are comparatively thin, yet fairly densely woven, which makes them soft and flexible. Perfect for daily use and with a lot of movement. Even today, these carpets offer excellent value for money as well as outstanding durability.
