Description from the seller
Pile: % Wool
Weft & Warp: 100% Cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knot density: approx. 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch rugs (also Belutsch) come from a nomadic ethnic group from the Baluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from agriculture, rug production, and sheep, goat, and camel breeding. Traditionally the rugs are made from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes’ own herds. Due to their tribal origin, the rugs are usually smaller because of the high transport needs, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown, or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch rugs are comparatively thin, yet quite densely woven, making them soft and flexible. Perfect for daily use and a lot of movement. Even today these rugs still offer an excellent price-performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
