Description from the seller
Pile: % Wool
Weft & Warp: 100% Cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knot density: approx. 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belutsch) originate from a nomadic ethnic group from the Belutschistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from agriculture, carpet production as well as sheep, goat, and camel breeding. Traditionally the carpets are made from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes’ own herds. Due to their tribal origin, the carpets are usually smaller because of the high transport requirements, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch carpets are comparatively thin, yet rather densely woven, making them soft and flexible. Perfect for everyday use and a lot of movement. Even today these carpets still offer an excellent price-performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
