Description from the seller
Pile: % Wool
Weft & Warp: 100% cotton
Quality: hand-knotted
Knot count: approx. 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belouch) originate from a nomadic people in the Beluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from agriculture, carpet production, and sheep, goats, and camel herding. Traditionally the carpets are made from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes’ own herds. Due to their tribal origin, the carpets are typically smaller because of the high transport requirements, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch carpets are relatively thin, yet rather densely woven, making them soft and flexible. Perfect for daily use and frequent movement. Even today these carpets still offer an excellent price-performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
