Description from the seller
Pile: % Wool
Warp & Weft: 100% Cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knot count: approx. 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belutsch) originate from a nomadic ethnic group from the Baluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from agriculture, rug production, as well as sheep, goat, and camel breeding. Traditionally, the carpets are made from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes’ own herds. Due to their tribal origin, the carpets are generally smaller because of the high transport needs, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown, or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with vivid patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch carpets are comparatively thin, but rather densely woven, making them soft and flexible. Perfect for daily use and a lot of movement. Even today these carpets still offer an excellent price-performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
