Description from the seller
Pile: 100% Wool
Weft & Warp: 100% Cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knot count: about 160,000 per m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belutsch) come from a nomadic ethnic group from the Baluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from farming, rug production, and sheep, goat, and camel husbandry. Traditionally the carpets are made from sheep's wool or goat hair from the tribes' own flocks. Because of their tribal origin, the carpets are usually smaller due to the high transport demands, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown, or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with vivid patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch carpets are relatively thin, but rather densely woven, making them soft and flexible. Perfect for daily use and with a lot of movement. Even today these carpets still offer excellent value for money as well as outstanding durability.
