Description from the seller
Pile: % Wool
Warp & Weft: 100 % cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knot count: ca. 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
Baluch carpets (also Belouch) come from a nomadic ethnic group from the region of Balochistan, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from agriculture, carpet production, as well as sheep, goats and camel husbandry. Traditionally the carpets are made from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes' own herds. Because of their tribal origins, the carpets are typically smaller due to the high transport requirements, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch carpets are relatively thin, but rather densely woven, which makes them soft and flexible. Perfect for everyday use and a lot of movement. Even today these carpets still offer an excellent price–performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
