Model Baluch Afghan, country of origin Pakistan, hand-knotted rug with wool on cotton, 145 × 83 cm, 21st century, in very good condition and professionally cleaned.
Description from the seller
Pile: % Wool
Weft & Warp: 100 % cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knot count: approx. 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belutsch) come from a nomadic people of the Belutschistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from agriculture, rug production, as well as sheep, goat and camel breeding. Traditionally the rugs are made from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes' own herds. Due to their tribal origin, the rugs are usually smaller because of the high transportation needs, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with vivid patterns in white, ivory, yellow or orange tones. Baluch carpets are comparatively thin, but rather densely woven, which makes them soft and flexible. Perfect for daily use and a lot of movement. Even today these carpets still offer an excellent price-performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
