A neo-Gothic silver monstrance crafted in Paris by Placide Poussielgue-Rusand (1824–1889) in the 19th century, made of .950 silver, approximately 80 cm high, 30 cm wide, 20 cm deep, weighing about 1460 g, in fair condition with heavy use and possibly missing small parts.
Description from the seller
Very refined and rare silver monstrance in the Neo-Gothic style, made in Paris by the renowned goldsmith Placide Poussielgue-Rusand (1824–1889), one of the leading makers of liturgical silverware in the 19th century.
This monumental monstrance testifies to an exceptional level of craftsmanship and artistic quality. The neogothic formal language comes beautifully to expression in the rich architectural composition, the finely worked tracings, floral motifs, and the harmonious sun rays around the lunula window. The proportions are perfectly balanced, which yields an impressive yet graceful appearance.
Placide Poussielgue-Rusand worked for churches, abbeys, and cathedrals throughout France and abroad. His work today is part of museum collections and is highly valued by collectors of religious art and 19th-century silverware.
