Description from the seller
The myth of Napoleon Bonaparte, built between history and propaganda, gave rise during the nineteenth century to a vast iconographic production intended to celebrate his deeds and spread his memory throughout Europe.
Important and decorative lot composed of 12 period prints and engravings dedicated to the Napoleonic epopee, depicting battles, historical episodes and celebratory moments related to Napoleon Bonaparte and his military campaigns. The set offers a broad and coherent iconographic overview of the period from the late eighteenth to the nineteenth century, making it particularly interesting both from a collectible and a decorative perspective.
Among the subjects depicted are some of the most significant episodes in Napoleonic history, including the Battle of Austerlitz (present in two different engravings), the Battle of Lützen, the Melegnano Assault, the Capture of Ponte Nuovo at Magenta, Napoleon’s Arrival in Grenoble, the Birth of the King of Rome, and the famous Retreat from Russia. In addition to these, there are further military and narrative scenes with troops, officers, campsites and moments of martial life, enriching the lot and making it varied and complete.
The dimensions vary from about 59 x 45 cm for the larger pieces to about 25 x 28 cm for the smaller ones. The condition is good, with signs of time consistent with the age of the works. All prints are presented in frames of varying types.
This is a lot with strong visual and thematic impact, ideal for collectors of historical graphics and enthusiasts of the Napoleonic period, but also perfect for decorating classical rooms, studies or libraries. The presence of iconic and highly sought-after subjects, together with the variety of techniques and formats, helps make this collection especially interesting also for the international market.
