Description from the seller

An impressive color woodcut by Anton Hiller, titled 'Composición abstracta'. The sheet, in a generous format of 76 × 55 cm, bears the artist's handwritten signature at the bottom and is numbered.

The work presents a dynamic, colorful abstraction in which Hiller combines his characteristic clarity of forms with the structural expressiveness of the woodcut. The subtle overlays of lines and color fields give the piece a special tension and impressively demonstrate how confidently Hiller mastered the graphic medium. A rare and highly decorative sheet for collectors of demanding modern graphics.

Artist description

Anton Hiller (1893 – 1985, Munich) is one of the influential German artistic personalities of the 20th century. After studying at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, he developed a versatile body of work as a sculptor, painter, and graphic artist. Travels to France and Italy expanded his artistic vocabulary. From 1946, he took on a professorship for sculpture at the Munich Academy and influenced an entire generation of young artists.

Hillers' artistic thinking consistently revolved around the idea of elemental form. Whether in his well-known sculptures or in his graphic works, he always sought clear, reduced structures that capture the essence of a form. His woodcuts, in particular, demonstrate how he combined strictness, rhythm, and organic movement into a timeless, modern visual language.

This abstract color woodcut exemplifies his keen sense of composition and his masterful technical precision — a characteristic, expressive sheet by a significant Munich artist.
