Japanese Traditional Woodworking Tools – Sakuri Kanna (Grooving Planes) Set of 3 / Vintage Carpenter Tools (Showa Period) This lot is a set of three Japanese traditional special-purpose planes called “Sakuri Kanna”, used by carpenters and woodworkers in Japan. Unlike standard smoothing planes, these tools are designed for cutting and finishing grooves (channels) in wood, essential for precision work such as joinery, sliding doors, furniture making, and traditional wood craftsmanship. Sakuri kanna allows the user to carefully control the cut while adjusting the blade. This set includes models featuring a screw-type adjustment mechanism, enabling fine control of the groove width and depth—showing practical craftsmanship and traditional tool engineering from the era. The wooden bodies show natural aging such as patina, minor scratches and wear, reflecting genuine use over time. Due to age, blade sharpening and adjustment are required. Please consider this item mainly for collection purposes. These tools are highly suitable for collectors of Japanese woodworking tools, as well as for workshop or shop display. ⸻ Details • Item: Sakuri Kanna (Grooving Plane) – Set of 3 • Use: Grooving / channel cutting & finishing in wood • Materials: Wooden body with metal blades and fittings • Estimated period: Showa era (mid to late 20th century) • Condition: Vintage used condition (scratches, stains, rust on metal parts, etc.) – please see photos
