Antique Roman Catholic chasuble – silk & gold threads – 19th century.

Ancient Roman Catholic chasuble made of handwoven silk with a rich cross ornament made of metal threads (gold/Lahn).
The classical Roman cut ('Fiddleback') as well as the strictly symmetrical ornamentation point to an origin in the 19th century.

The chasuble features a centrally placed cross with finely worked floral motifs and multi-tiered borders. The craftsmanship, the irregular silk texture, and the visible hand stitches attest to its pre-industrial manufacture.

The condition is original and unrestored, with age-related signs of wear, abrasion of the metal threads, small defects, and discoloration, especially on the back.
