Description from the seller

This is a Westerwald stoneware jug, recognizable by its characteristic blue-gray salt glaze and the relief decorations.

Features

Dimension:

Height: 35.9 cm
Width: 22.6 cm incl. ear
Diameter: 18.2 cm
Foot diameter: 10.9 cm
Neck diameter: 8.7 cm

Weight: 2025 grams

Condition: not restored, 100% intact

- the can is in excellent condition; no additions have been made, and at no place has any form of color restoration been performed, in other words, pristine.

Material and glaze: The jug is made of very hard, compact stoneware that, during firing, has been given a salt glaze, which results in the glossy, slightly gritty texture that is often described as "orange peel".

Decoration: The decoration is applied by means of relief ornaments (sprig molds) and incision, coloured with cobalt blue. It shows intricate floral motifs on the body.

Origin and Period: This type of pottery originates from the Westerwald region in Germany. Similar jugs were produced from the beginning of the 17th century until the end of the 19th century, with the 19th-century jugs often having more elaborate shapes and were intended for decorative purposes.

Shipping method: this lot is excellently packaged and shipped via DHL or DPD using Catawiki's smart shipping.
