Antique solid wood carved candle holder dating from 1950–1960, 62 cm high and weighing 2 kg, with a slender lotus-like shaft and a heavy, richly profiled base, hand-carved from European hardwood and in good condition with minor signs of aging.
Description from the seller
Very beautiful antique wooden candlestick, completely hand-carved from solid wood.
The candelabrum features a slender, elegant column with subtle vertical fluting, resting on a heavy and richly profiled pedestal with geometrically carved details.
The transition from the shaft to the foot is adorned with a floral, almost lotus-like carving decoration, which indicates artisanal craftsmanship.
The upper side is finished as a wide candle dish, suitable for a standard dinner candle.
This type of candelabrum was used in ecclesiastical, monastic, or stately domestic interiors and is both functional and sculptural in character.
Due to its height and appearance, it is a striking decorative object with presence.
Symbolic / historical context
Wooden candlesticks were traditionally used as bearers of light, a powerful symbol of protection, spirituality, and homeliness.
In a religious context, the candlelight stood for contemplation and devotion; in a domestic setting, for warmth and status.
Condition
Good antique condition
Clear signs of age and use, such as wear on the underside, small imperfections, and patina, fully consistent with age and use.
No structural fractures; standing stable.
Dimensions
Height: 62 cm.
Top width: 13 cm.
Width of foot: 13.5 cm.
Foot depth: 13.5 cm.
