The Citizen Classic Automatic  has a classic, slightly elegant stainless steel case that could be described as a versatile watch: perfect for all-day, every day. With a diameter of 40 mm and a height of 11.1 mm, the proportions are equally classic, at least by modern standards. It's slightly larger than a dress watch, but it still falls within the ideal contemporary range for many who are considering it. Therefore, it can be worn with both business attire and on weekends.

DIAL AND HANDS
What really makes this Citizen Classic Automatic  special is its dial, with a deep white finish. Add to this the raised and tapered metal stick indexes (with a double index at 12 o'clock), and the term "affordable" no longer applies, It features a day/date window at 3 o'clock. A simple minute/second hand extends along the outer edge. The polished sword-shaped hour and minute hands are highly legible, and the baton seconds hand sweeps clearly around the outer edge. The dial is also understated, with only the company name and the word "AUTOMATIC" printed on it.

MOVEMENT
The beating heart is a Miyota 8200 automatic movement, with 21 jewels, 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz), and a 40-hour power reserve. For more information on Miyota, see our alternatives to standard Swiss movements. Accuracy is estimated at -20/+40 seconds per day, but it's a tried-and-true workhorse developed in the 1970s. It's reliable, maintainable, affordable, and does its job admirably. Functions include central hours, minutes, seconds, and a day/date complication, and it can be manually wound.
