Schatz Royal Mariner barometer with thermometer, brass and glass, in excellent working order, dating from 1980–1990, produced in Denmark, Ø18 cm, height 18 cm, depth 9.5 cm, weight 1130 g, Modern style.
Description from the seller
Vintage barometer from the Schatz brand, model Royal Mariner, Ø180, Barometer type 45-1071P — late 20th century — new price now €415.
The classic Schatz barometer from the Royal Mariner series features a gleaming brass housing with a glass plate and a beautiful open dial. This distinctive nautical instrument consists of a barometer and thermometer made of high-quality brass. The barometer and thermometer have a front porthole for easy access to the internals and are weather-resistant, so you can use the instrument outdoors as well.
Your Schatz barometer was calibrated at sea level before it left our factory. If the location where you use the barometer is above sea level, you will need to calibrate it yourself.
To properly calibrate your barometer, compare your reading with that of a correctly calibrated barometer in your region. You can also check the weather forecast in your local telephone directory. There you will find the current air pressure for your region.
To calibrate your barometer, proceed as follows:
Open the glass ring to expose the adjustment screw at the back of the movement. Turn this screw clockwise until the barometer indicator shows the desired value.
In this case, the adjustment screw is accessible through an opening at the back of the cabinet. Adjust the screw as described above.
Before reading the barometer, gently tap it to check that the pointer is free. Then adjust the pointer on the glass so that it covers the black pointer.
The next time you take the barometer reading, you can see whether it has risen or fallen.
In general, a rising barometer (the black needle moves clockwise) indicates good weather, while a falling barometer (the black needle moves counterclockwise) indicates bad weather.
If the barometer falls rapidly, you can expect stormy weather within a few hours.
If the barometer rises rapidly—10–20 millibars in a few hours—unstable weather and often strong winds can be expected.
A steadily falling or rising barometer indicates good or bad weather for about 12 to 24 hours ahead.
An unchanged barometer reading suggests that the weather will remain stable.
This large barometer is equipped with a thermometer in the lower part of the scale. It shows the temperature in Celsius above and in Fahrenheit below the thermometer glass.
Dimensions: H 9.5 cm x Ø 18 cm
Weight: 1130 grams
This item has been tested to work and is in like-new condition. It will be securely packaged with smart shipping, sent by registered mail, and insured.
