Scailmont - Henri Heemskerk - Vase - Glass

A brilliant piece from the famous Verreries de Scailmont (Manage, Belgium), made between 1925-1935 during the golden age of Belgian Art Deco glass. Designed by Henri Heemskerk, chief designer at Scailmont. Designer & Origin: Designer: Henri Heemskerk (1886-1953) Factory: Verreries de Scailmont, Manage, Belgium Period: circa 1925-1935 Style: Art Deco Features: Iconic stepped/tiered neck - signature 1930s style Beautiful marbled glass ("verre marmoréen") in warm amber, brown, orange and cream tones Heavy, thick-walled quality glass Handmade - no two are identical! Technique: Triple-layered construction: white opaline base + marbled middle layer + transparent outer layer. This labor-intensive technique was a Scailmont specialty. Condition: Overall very good for 90+ year old vintage glass. Please note: There is one small imperfection at the top outer rim (possibly a manufacturing flaw or small chip). It feels smooth, barely visible during display. Historical Context: Henri Heemskerk worked alongside Charles Catteau (famous from Boch Frères) and created the iconic marbled glass line that made Scailmont famous. These vases were made during the same era as the legendary 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris - the exhibition that gave "Art Deco" its name! Scailmont closed in 2000 after nearly 100 years of production - making these pieces genuine time capsules of Belgian glass art.
